Getting your house clean and germ free doesn't have to be bad for the environment. Use homemade earth friendly products for cleaning your kitchen, living room, bathroom and other rooms in your house. Earth-friendly products are easy to make with things you have in your cupboards.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Mix earth friendly window cleaner. Use one simple ingredient from your cupboard to make this easy window wash. Mix 2 tsp. vinegar with 1 qt. warm water. Put mixture in a spray bottle. Spray on windows or glass surfaces and wipe dry with newspaper.
Step2
Clean your oven with baking soda. Put water in a spray bottle. Spray oven to get it damp. Avoid heating elements and wires. Sprinkle baking soda over oven surfaces and leave overnight. Grease should easily wipe up the next morning. Scrub any stubborn stain with steel wool.
Step3
Clean out your kitchen drains by mixing an eco-friendly drain cleaner. Mix 1 cup baking soda, 1 cup salt and 1/4 cup cream of tartar. Pour 1/2 cup of the drain cleaner mixture down the drain, followed by 1/2 cup vinegar. Flush drain with 2 quarts boiling water.
Step4
Mix a mold and mildew killer to use on virtually any surface in your home. Mix two teaspoons of tree tea oil with two cups water in a spray bottle. Shake up and spray on mold infected area. No need to rinse off. Use on carpets, furniture, ceilings, shower curtains or any other area in your home.
Step5
Polish your silver the earth friendly way with a mix of salt and baking soda. Put your silver in an aluminum pan in the sink. Add hot water to the pan so the silver is covered. Add two teaspoons of salt and two teaspoons of baking soda. After five minutes turn the silver over and wait another five or ten minutes. Rinse the silver with water and dry.
Step6
Polish your furniture using a mixture of 1/2 teaspoon olive oil, 1/4 cup vinegar or lemon juice. Mix all ingredients together and store in a glass jar. To polish, get the corner of a rag wet with solution and wipe on furniture.
Step7
Clean your toilet the earth-friendly way. Dump 1/4 cup baking soda into toilet bowl. Slowly pour 1/2 cup vinegar over baking soda and around bowl. Let sit 1/2 hour and scrub. Borax can be used for tough stains. Pour it in the bowl and let it sit before scrubbing.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep household cleaners in bottles clearly marked and away from pets and children.
  • Tree tea oil in mold and mildew remover leaves a strong smell that will go away after a few days.
