With the outrageous prices of textbooks these days, why not make a few bucks off the ones you don't need anymore? Selling textbooks online is a snap, and can put a little extra cash in your pocket. Follow these steps to sell your used textbooks online.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Log on to the Internet. Begin researching websites by typing "sell textbooks online" into any search engine. Click on a site that you want to research.

  2. Step 2

Register with the site so that you can find out how much money you can get for the textbooks that you wish to sell. You will usually need to provide your email address and create a user name and password to use when accessing the website.

  3. Step 3

Enter the ISBN from your textbook to find out if the site will take it, how much they will pay for it, and how you can receive payment. Make sure that the textbook they list matches exactly the one you are trying to sell. If there are any extra items (such as CD-ROMs or study guides) that came with your textbook, make sure that they are sold with it.

  4. Step 4

Bookmark the pricing page. This will make it easier to reference when comparing prices with another site.

  5. Step 5

Repeat Steps 1 through 4 until you find the best deal. When you decide to sell your textbooks on a certain website, be sure to describe the condition of the textbook honestly and thoroughly. This will let the buyer know exactly what to expect, which will in turn give you a positive selling reputation.

  6. Step 6

Decide on how you wish to receive payment for your textbooks (personal check, PayPal account, money order).

  7. Step 7

Receive payment, and mail the textbook to the shipping address provided by the buyer. When you sell your used textbooks online, it is your responsibility to mail the textbook to the buyer in a timely manner (usually within two days of receiving payment).

Tips & Warnings
  • Using the ISBN is the easiest way to list your textbook. You can find the ISBN on the packaging and/or back cover of your textbook, usually located just above the barcode.
  • On sites like Amazon.com, if you list your textbook for a lower selling price than any other exact listing of that textbook, you will have a much better chance of selling it promptly!
  • When selling on a site like Amazon.com, in order to collect payment from the textbooks you sell, Amazon.com will need to collect your credit card number, billing address, phone number and checking account information that can be found on a personal check. You cannot sell textbooks at Amazon.com without this information.

on 4/3/2009 Using an online book buying service to sell your used textbooks is just as bad as reselling them to the campus bookstore. You'll get 25% of your purchase price with both services. Instead place your books for sale on one of the various online services and earn 75% or better of your books value. Here is a concise blog for learning how to sell books online:http://howtosellbooksonline.blogspot.com/Best of luck!
