Step 1
Search online for information about botanic gardens. Most gardens now have their own websites that provide information about the garden, when to visit and special exhibits that will be going on. You may also find websites that have lists of botanic gardens in certain countries or from around the world. Be sure to contact each garden before visiting to make sure the information on hours, cost and location are correct and up to date.
-
Step 2
Contact national or state garden associations. The American Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboreta is the best place to begin looking. The American Public Gardens Association (APGA) or the National Gardening Association are also good places to start. The National Gardening Association website has a searchable list of all public gardens in the United States.

Step 3
Read through gardening magazines and publications. You can often find reference to and pictures of botanic gardens around the world.
-
Step 4
Ask local garden groups if they know of any botanic gardens nearby or if they can recommend those that they have visited in particular areas. Individuals who garden themselves are more likely to visit public gardens and will generally have more information on botanic gardens than a non-gardener.

Step 5
Call the agriculture department of a university near you. Many such departments maintain botanic gardens on university property or contribute to public gardens in the city or region.
