Many people believe that thick hair can endure any type of treatment. This is not true. Thick hair needs as much care and attention as any other type of hair. Finding and using shampoo products that are specifically for use on thick hair is possible with a little searching and product comparison.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine your hair's porosity value. Thick hair is often highly porous and absorbs certain hair products immediately.

  2. Step 2

Pick a moisturizing shampoo for thick hair. Find the words "for thick hair" on the bottle to be sure it is the correct product that you need.

  3. Step 3

Use a quarter sized dollop of shampoo for thick hair. More is not better and since thick hair tends to be so porous, the product it will actually "grow" as it is agitated.

  4. Step 4

Get a shampoo with a built-in conditioner. Thick hair needs products that slide along the hair shaft without pulling or tugging it. This causes the hair to be stripped of its natural oils.

  5. Step 5

Consider an after-shampoo treatment to smooth the hair shaft and help thick hair lay down. A good product on the market is L'anza Re Balance Power Treatment. You can find it online at places like beauty mart.

  6. Step 6

Compare products before buying to find which one suits your hair best. Use trial sizes or promotional items to try before you buy.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't use products that are for fragile, sensitive or other hair types. Use products that are specifically for thick hair to get desired results.
