According to its website, the Optimist organization is a group of over 3,000 autonomous clubs. Optimists help children in their communities and give to local charities. There are many good reasons to get active with the Optimists, and a chapter may be operating near you.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Read the Optimist Creed. The Creed is available on the website. This embodies the goals and attitudes of the groups and members.

  2. Step 2

Look up chapters to see if there is one near you and how far away it might be. This will give you an idea of whether you can attend meetings or if you should try to contribute in another way.

  3. Step 3

Fill out the questionnaire on the visitor's page. This will give the Optimists information that will be necessary if you want to join a chapter.

  4. Step 4

A member should contact you after you have filled out the questionnaire. In the meantime, you can browse the site to learn about the programs of the Optimists and the benefits of being active with the clubs.

  5. Step 5

Write down questions you might have for the Optimists.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be in it for the long haul. It may be easy to get momentarily inspired, but the challenge is following through with commitments. It will be well worth it in the long run, when you can say to yourself that you've made a difference in the lives of children.
