Step 1
Discuss everyone's expectations about the trip ahead of time. Some people prefer spending their ski vacation drinking hot chocolate at the lodge while others would rather visit an elite resort that only caters to advanced skiers. Either way, everyone's wishes should be respected.
-
Step 2
Select a resort that will accommodate the group's expectations based on your prior conversation. If the couples live on opposite sides of the country, choose a place that is halfway in-between so that travel times are even. A few minutes of online research can prevent plenty of travel nightmares.
-
Step 3
Decide how the trip will be paid for and collect everyone's share as soon as you can. If one couple is paying for accommodations while the other covers travel expenses, you should prepare a spreadsheet listing all the anticipated costs so that there are no surprises later.
-
Step 4
Assign sleeping quarters as soon as you select the hotel. If you plan on sharing a spacious cabin, designate which couple will sleep in what room. Again, deciding these details ahead of time will prevent any arguments once you've arrived.
-
Step 5
Agree on how much time you plan on spending together. Some couples enjoy their private time and if that's the case with your group, plan alternative activities with your partner. If the opposite is true but the skill levels vary between skiers, take turns selecting trails so that everyone gets a chance to do something they enjoy.
-
Step 6
Pick a meeting place and time in case anyone gets lost on the slopes. Alternatively, you can purchase two-way radios that will keep everyone connected.
-
Step 7
Set boundaries with regards to alcohol and partying. If the couple you are going with likes to get rowdy (or vice versa) it might be better to book separate rooms altogether or establish a "lights out" time that is reasonable for everyone.
