Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Teach salespeople all the aspects of your products or services. Knowledge is power, and the more salespeople know about what your company offers, the more potential clients will trust them.
Step2
Instill an enthusiasm and desire to sell and cater to customers' needs. A true desire to sell that is based on helping the customer will accomplish a lot more than pressure tactics. Enthusiasm is contagious. When your staff is armed with the double whammy of knowledge and enthusiasm, more sales are sure to result.
Step3
Reward good performances with extra perks, like concert tickets or an all-expense paid weekend getaway. Monetary incentives like bonuses after a certain number of sales will inspire people to work harder toward their goals.
Step4
Create a team-oriented environment. Individual sales goals are important, but sharing successes and discussing techniques as a team can set your sales staff apart from competitors. Have regular group meetings to discuss overall strategy and one on one meetings when needed.
Step5
Establish realistic goals. By being honest about what to expect from employees, they will gain a sense of achievement and strive to do more, instead of being frustrated by impossibly high goals.
Step6
Shun intimidation as a method of motivating sales staff. Subtly threatening employees with demotion or dismissal if goals are not met will not inspire them to sell more. It will ultimately create an atmosphere of resentment and mistrust. A sales supervisor should be an ally to the sales staff, not an enemy.
