Everyone seems to have a widget on their website or blog these days. Widgets are a great way to add changing content to websites. A widget makes it easy to add HTML or Javascript code to your website or blog, without having to mess about with the template. With a widget, it is simple to add dynamic content such as a playlist or news headlines to websites.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Website or blog
  • Widgets
  1. Step 1

Find widgets to put on your website or blog. Widgets for websites are available from widget directories such as WidgetBox, Snipperoo and SpringWidgets. You can also find widgets at many other websites.

  2. Step 2

Choose the widget you want. Widget content for a website or blog includes music playlists, reading lists, news headlines, site visitors and much more. Many social networking sites have widgets for placement on a site or blog.

  3. Step 3

Decide where to put the widget on your website or blog. With websites, widgets can be pasted into the HTML template for the site. With blogs, widgets are often pasted into the sidebar of the blog template.

  4. Step 4

Highlight the widget code and copy it. On some widget websites, you may be able to do this with one click.

  5. Step 5

Paste the widget code into the appropriate place in your website or blog template. Repeat with other widgets if you wish.

  6. Step 6

Save and/or upload the website or blog template, which now has the code for your widgets. Refresh the page and enjoy your dynamic website or blog.

Tips & Warnings
  • See which widgets are available on other people's websites or blogs. Most widgets have a link you can click to go to the originating widget website and create a widget of your own.
  • There are hundreds of widgets available from different websites. A widget directory is the best place to search for a widget.
  • Some blogging engines, such as the new Blogger and the latest versions of WordPress, incorporate widgets into their template designs.
  • The code you need for a widget may change depending on your website or blog template. Make sure you get the right widget for your site.

It can also hold all your social profiles in its dropdown menu which gracefully opens on rollover.
