It's easy to make accessory boxes. These decorative boxes can be made to match any decor and are very handy to hold small desk supplies like paperclips, rubber bands and stamps. An accessory box is ideal in the bathroom to hold earrings, small pieces of jewelry, make-up, or hair clips. Small trinket boxes make ideal gifts. Here is how to make a pretty multi-drawer accessory box.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Binder's board
  • 4 empty matchboxes
  • Decorative paper
  • 1/8-inch wide ribbon
  • Glue
  • Small foam roller
  1. Step 1

Cut decorative paper large enough to wrap the outside of each matchbox. Glue the paper covers on each matchbox. Do not cover the drawers. Let Dry.

  2. Step 2

Place the four matchboxes in a square, alternating the direction of each box so the end of each matchbox is placed along the side of the adjacent matchbox. Measure the dimensions of the square they make.

  3. Step 3

Cut two square boards to this measurement with an additional 1/16-inch added on all four sides of the board

  4. Step 4

Cut pieces of the same decorative paper to wrap each board, leaving a 5/8-inch turn on all four sides. Cut away the excess paper at the corners by cutting the paper at an angle.

  5. Step 5

Glue paper to the boards turning the excess paper on each side to the inside. Use a rubber roller to smooth the paper and get out wrinkles and air pockets.

  6. Step 6

Glue the matchboxes to one of the boards in the square configuration that you had arranged.

  7. Step 7

Glue the other board to the top of the square of matchboxes.

  8. Step 8

Take the match trays out of the matchboxes and remove the matches.

  9. Step 9

Using a small piece of ribbon, make a loop and glue the ends of the ribbon to the underside of the match tray, making a handle for the tiny drawer.

  10. Step 10

Measure the distance of the glued ribbon on the tray and mark this distance on the other three matchbox trays and glue ribbons to each tray. Glue a small square of matching paper over the ends of the ribbon on the underside of each match tray.

  11. Step 11

Put the drawers into the boxes when all pieces are thoroughly dry.
