If you are struggling with getting the right haircut every time you go to the salon, rest assured that you are not alone. For every perfectly coiffed person out there, there are a hundred other people who want to know how they did it. Follow some simple steps to become one of those perfectly coiffed few.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide what kind of haircut you want. No matter how good a hairdresser thinks a hairstyle may look, it won't be the right haircut for you unless you like it. If you can draw, sketch a picture of the 'do you want.

  2. Step 2

Research haircuts and styles. Look up pictures of celebrities whose hair you admire or check hairstyle websites and magazines. Once you find a picture, take it with you to the salon. Most stylists appreciate having a picture to work from.

  3. Step 3

Pick a stylist. Costs vary, so shop around to find a price you're comfortable paying. More expensive isn't always better, but do check for a cosmetology license. Find someone you'll want to go back to regularly, since having a regular hair stylist is one of the best ways to get the right haircut every time.

  4. Step 4

Tell your stylist how you style your hair. If you never blow dry it, for instance, you're probably not going to get those cool flipped ends at home. Ask the stylist to recommend a style that looks good with the amount of time you're willing to put into it every day.

  5. Step 5

Take a picture. Once you finally get the perfect haircut, take lots of pictures of it. Years from now, if you have changed your hairstyle and then want to come back to this one, you will be grateful you documented it.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you're looking for good hair care products, most stylists are happy to recommend some. Just be aware that anything you buy at a salon is going to be more expensive than what you buy at a grocery or drug store.
  • New stylists frequently change locations. So when you find one you like, make sure you get a business card with a cell phone number.
