When you become a vegan you make lifestyle choices that will soon be obvious to everyone around you. A vegan, or pure vegetarian, does not eat any type of animal derived product, or wear or use any animal products. A vegan lifestyle takes a lot of commitment and probably a lot of explaining.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Talk about all the health benefits of being vegan. Vegans typically have few cholesterol, blood pressure or weight problems. They also have lower incidences of cancer and heart disease.

  2. Step 2

Point out that vegans consume fewer resources and cause less damage to the environment. Raising animals for meat contributes to water pollution and the destruction of the rain forest.

  3. Step 3

Take your stand for animal rights. Vegans don't eat or wear animal products. Express your belief that humans should not kill, torture and mutilate animals for the sake of food, clothing or other products.

  4. Step 4

Reflect on the religious and ethical reasons you became a vegan. Your choice shows your commitment to a non-violent lifestyle that is gentle to animals, other people and the earth.

  5. Step 5

Calm the concerns of friends and family by telling them that you will get plenty of protein and other nutrients by eating a wide variety of plant-based foods, including soy, beans and nuts. In fact, you get to eat all you want because your food choices are so low in fat.

  6. Step 6

Cook a gourmet vegan dinner for your friends and family and show them that even vegans can entertain in style.
