Virtual interviews are practice interviews available as books, DVD's and Internet websites. These are multiple-choice questions that create a replicated interview setting in which you can practice. This helps you not just with answering questions but with understanding different behaviors. It involves maintaining appropriate body language, being spontaneous in choosing the strongest answer and tackling the questions with confidence. The following steps will help you ace even the toughest virtual interview.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Sit at a desk with the computer or the practice interview book to create an actual workplace scenario. Try not to slouch or entertain any breaks and distractions. You are supposed to market yourself in an interview. So, make a genuine effort to recreate the actual scene. Attempt to finish the interview in one shot.
Step2
Treat the interviewer as a real person. It could be just a virtual character in the simulated program on the website or a name in the book that you practice with. Still, associate it with an actual interviewer to work on your tone, eye contact and manners. This will help you become more fluent with your ability to answer questions and lessen anxiety.
Step3
Take time to understand the choices in the sample interview and choose the one that applies to you the most. Imagine a response from the interviewer. The more honestly you practice, the better you can warm up for the real thing.
Step4
Practice being yourself. It helps to be more natural in answering the questions instead of replaying the best sounding responses or trying to role-play someone else.
Step5
Remember there are no right or wrong answers. The questionnaire usually has multiple choices. Your success depends on your ability to choose the most appropriate answer that fits your personality and scenario.

Tips & Warnings

  • The questions that are generic need to be modified to suit your situation. However, the logic behind the answer is essentially the same.
