Decide what issues, policies or candidates you want to discuss. You can form a group with a broad focus on general politics, but groups tailored to certain candidates or groups of issues may have stronger appeal.

Sign up at Meetup.com as a way to find members. Meetup.com allows people in your area to find groups they are interested in joining. Help planning meeting times and places is also provided. Start a Meetup group by clinking on "Start a Meetup" on the main page.

Look for new members on social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace. These sites allow you to sort people by interest and location.

    • 4

Create a blog to get discussion going, plan group activities and keep members involved in between meetings. Create a blog by going to Blogger and clicking on "Create Your Blog Now."

Invite political candidates, office holders and political staff members to speak to your political discussion group. They need public support and are usually happy to talk to citizen groups.
