If you believe in grassroots democracy and your motto is "Peace, justice and ecology," then joining up with the Green Party and becoming a candidate may be the thing to do. The Green Party, like all political parties, starts at the local level. To become a Green Party candidate you will want to first become an active member of your local Green Party organization.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Visit the Green Party website and locate your state Green Party affiliate. Contact your local Greens and attend meetings and caucuses.

  2. Step 2

Identify yourself as a Green by making sure your party affiliation on your voter registration is the Green Party.

  3. Step 3

Volunteer on the Green's Outreach Committee and the Coordinated Campaign Committee. These committees work to spread the Green message and to recruit and support Green Party candidates.

  4. Step 4

Learn all that you can about Green values and issues and make yourself available as a speaker through the Green Party Speakers Bureau. You want as many people as possible to identify you as a politically active Green.

  5. Step 5

Download and study the campaign materials provided by the Green Party. These include a campaign manual and organizing tools.

  6. Step 6

Enlist the support of family, friends and your local Green Party. You will need people to help raise funds and campaign for you. Consider enlisting someone to act as your campaign manager.

  7. Step 7

Declare yourself a Green Party candidate once you have the support of the local party.

Tips & Warnings
  • The Green Party is especially interested in recruiting and supporting candidates from under-represented groups, including minorities, women, people with disabilities, and gays and lesbians.
