If you have never been pregnant before, you may be confused about how to find a maternity bra that looks good and fits well. Before you make your maternity bra purchase, there are some things that you should take into consideration.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Expect your breasts to go through size changes. You should not anticipate to wear a maternity bra in your pre-pregnancy bra size. Most women are at least a full cup size larger.

  2. Step 2

Measure your breast size to find a bra that will fit right. Use a measuring tape to determine your band size by measuring under your arms. Your cup size will be determined by measuring from your back to the fullest part of your breasts.

  3. Step 3

Look for a four-station back enclosure on the bra. This will ensure that the bra feels comfortable and will not become undone easily.

  4. Step 4

Wear a maternity bra with comfortable straps. Straps should be wide and be cushioned well in order to not dig into your shoulders.

  5. Step 5

Select a bra that you can nurse in as well. Most maternity bras have snaps that unhook that allow you to feed your baby without unhooking the bra.

  6. Step 6

Keep the maternity bra on often. You will need the support during the duration of your pregnancy and if you choose to breastfeed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't wear an underwire maternity bra if you feel that it digs into your skin.
  • Don't wear a bra that is too large in expectation of breast growth. Any bra that you wear should provide adequate support and fit well.
