How to Buy a GEM Car

Ever since the first Global Electric Motorcar rolled out of Fargo, North Dakota in 1998, folks around the globe have fallen in love with the little "GEM." With its unique curved shape and street legal (in approved areas zoned 35 miles per hour or less) capabilities, GEM cars are popping up all over neighborhoods, golfing communities and college campuses as the hottest forms of alternative transportation since bicycles. Read on to learn how to buy a GEM car.

    1. Buying a GEM is Just a Mouse Click Away

        Log onto the GEM website. You can browse the website for more information or download a brochure.

        Customize the GEM you want to buy. Click on "Build Your Own" and select the model, color and options that best fit your needs. When you edit your selections, the total price will adjust accordingly.

        Click on "Your GEM Vehicle" when you're satisfied with your choices.

        Locate a dealership. Click on "Locate a Dealer" and choose "U.S. Dealers" or "International Dealers." Enter your zip code into the box and click on the "Go" button. Choose the nearest dealership from the list.

        Print your list of choices and bring it with you to the dealership.

        Show the printout to your GEM dealer.

        Take a test drive and make note of anything unusual.

        Find out about special financing, deposits or any additional fees. Also ask about guarantees and extended protection plans.

        Ask if you can buy a car from their current inventory or if the dealer must order one from the manufacturer. Ask if the GEM vehicle can be delivered to your home, and how long it takes for delivery. An additional charge may be added for home delivery.
