Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Determine your budget. Set a maximum amount and a minimum amount.
Step2
Decide on features. You may need a wireless networking card, additional memory or hard drive capacity.
Step3
Check the weekly sales paper for any advertised specials that are currently being offered. There are usually rebate specials, clearance laptops and even discontinued laptops that are available.
Step4
Visit a computer store and ask for any "unadvertised" specials. You may also want to consider purchasing the model on display. These are usually offered for significantly less than newer models.
Step5
Search computer online websites by typing into your browser "Cheap laptops" or "Discount notebooks."
Step6
Consult friends who already owns a notebook or laptop for their opinions of the store where they purchased their computer. Often, companies will offer a referral discount for new customers, or they may even offer a price reduction.
Step7
Ask a friend who works at a computer store to make the purchase for you using their employee discount. Make sure this doesn't violate store policy first.
Step8
Check your credit card companies to see if they offer discounted laptop computers through a designated vendor or supplier. Often, companies use these items as incentives to keep your business.
