  • Tablecloth
  • Curtain Rods

    Measuring and Purchasing

  1. Step 1

Purchase a decorative curtain rod and decorative rings with clips.

  2. Step 2

Install the curtain rod on the wall above the window.

  3. Step 3

Measure the width of the window. Divide the measurement in half. The tablecloth that you purchase should be one and a half times the width of that measurement to ensure coverage.

  4. Step 4

Measure the distance from the bottom of the curtain rod to the point where you want the curtain to end.

  5. Step 5

Add several inches to the length measurement. You will use the extra fabric to create a valance effect. Most valances are between 12 to 18 inches.

  6. Step 6

Shop for the tablecloth. Pick a fabric that will complement your room and window size.

  7. Making the Curtains

  8. Step 1

Lay the tablecloth on a table and fold over several inches of fabric on one end to create a valance.

  9. Step 2

Attach the curtain clips to the fold of the fabric, spacing the clips evenly across the top of the fabric.

  10. Step 3

Attach curtain rings to the curtain rod to hang curtains.

Tips & Warnings
  • Select a fabric that is the same on both sides so that the valance matches the rest of the curtain.
