How to Pack a Printer for Shipping

Packing and shipping a computer printer securely is relatively simple if you have all the packing peanuts, foam wedges and the sturdy box you had when you brought the printer home from the store. Even if you don't have any of the original packing material left, improvising a new shipping box is just as easy. Follow these steps to find out how to pack a printer for shipping.

Things You’ll Need:

• Corrugated Box
• Packing Tape
• Address Label
• Bubble Wrap
• Packing Peanuts

1. Get proper packing supplies from a mailbox rental store, the post office or a large office supply store. Measure the printer width and length and get a box that is slightly larger than those dimensions.
2. Take any ancillary pieces off the printer, such as detachable cords. Wrap them up in a plastic bag or the original packing material and fit them into the box.
3. Cushion the printer with bubble wrap, packing peanuts or foam wedges until it is secured in the box. Leave a tiny bit of "breathing room."
4. Tear off or obscure any prior shipping labels if using an original box. Make sure there is no wear and tear on the box from previous shipments.
5. Secure the box with strong packing tape or paper tape. Double tape the top and bottom of the package for extra security.
6. Address the box clearly with a new shipping label. Mark it "Fragile."
