Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose a sport to follow. The most popular sports are football, basketball and baseball. However there are many other choices such as hockey, wrestling, soccer, volleyball and more.

  2. Step 2

Pick a team. There are many criteria for choosing a favorite team in a particular college sport. Some include location, style of play and players on the team.

  3. Step 3

Purchase the college team's gear and merchandise. The gear and merchandise available is almost infinite. If the team you choose is local, most every college has a store close to campus that has wide selection of merchandise. If the team is not local, the Internet is a great resource for finding stuff.

  4. Step 4

Find out as much about the team as humanly possible. Read player bios on popular sports athletes on sports websites like AllSports.com.

  5. Step 5

Get tickets to the team's games. Tickets to the popular college sports and teams are tough to come by and can be expensive. However tickets to some of the less popular college sports can be readily available for a very reasonable price. Tickets can purchased by calling or visiting the athletic department of your college team or via the Internet.

  6. Step 6

Find out if the teams games are televised. The more popular sports (football and basketball) have pay-per-view packages that allow a fan to view games, no matter where they live either online or on television. There are also sports channels that are part of cable television packages that are more cost effective such as ESPN, Fox Sports and CSTV.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never leave a game before it is over, even if it is a hopeless loss.
  • Do not boo your own team.
  • Always be a gracious winner. Never make other fans or teams the focus. Remember it is about your team and not theirs.
  • You paid for the ticket, try to have fun no matter what the score.
