Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Choose a sunscreen with the proper SPF. No matter how light or dark your skin color, you should always tan with an applied sunscreen. The trick is to find one with a SPF that will allow you to tan and not burn.
Step2
Tan in the early morning hours or late afternoon. Avoid the sun mid-day when the sun is the strongest and can cause your skin to burn.
Step3
Wear a light colored bathing suit. Dark colored bathing suits will attract the sun to you.
Step4
Visit a tanning salon. The amount of UV rays is controlled in a tanning salon and reduces your chances of getting sunburn. Certain salons also offer a sunless tanning spray applied in a booth.
Step5
Apply a self-tanner. This is the safest way to tan without putting your skin at risk. You can choose the shade that looks best on you and most tanners are now streak-free. Test an area of your skin first before using a self-tanner.
