A farmers market is a great place to get fresh fruits, vegetables and other items. With the growing popularity of eating organic foods and finding locally grown and produced items, farmers markets have also grown in popularity, size and number. Finding a farmers market is an easy task if you know where to look.

Search online for lists of farmers markets. The United States Department of Agriculture maintains a list of farmers markets by state. The site lists the location, days and hours for each farmers market on the list. Be sure to call ahead in case the list is no longer up-to-date on hours, days or location for the particular market you are interested in.

Check with your local chamber of commerce to see if a farmers market is held in your town. Some farmers markets are run and organized through city governments. You may also be able to find statewide information on farmers markets through your state's official website.

Ask friends and neighbors if they know of a farmers market in the area. With the growing popularity of local markets, it's likely that someone you know frequents a farmers market from time to time.

Call small farmers in the area and ask if they attend any farmers markets with their produce. Farmers who maintain small roadside stands may also sell at local markets. Visit the Local Harvest website for information on organic growers in your area. It is likely that at least some of them participate in local farmers markets.

Observe signs and advertisements for markets. You may find out of the way stands or run across a market operating on a weekend near places that you go frequently. Keep an eye out for markets in parking lots, sheltered areas and other open spaces. Most markets will have at least some big white tents or canopies up so watch for those while running errands.
