How to Be a Die Hard Canadian Hockey Fan

Hockey in Canada is like fast-food and television in the United States. Hockey is an integral part of the Canadian identity and a true Canadian hockey fan is in many ways different from a hockey fan in general. Follow the tips below to become a die hard Canadian hockey fan.

Instructions

    • 1

Never boo a Canadian Hockey team. No matter how bad the Canadian team or how long it has been since they won a Stanley Cup, stay faithful. Don't be a fair-weather fan.

    • 2

Watch the Stanley Cup finals over and over on the Versus Network. Pay special attention to the years that Canadian teams won. Be able to discuss important plays and goals made by Canadian teams and players.

    • 3

Own the Stanley Cup finals for each year that Canada won on DVD.

    • 4

Grow a beard for the duration of the playoffs if there is a Canadian team in them. Although this tradition is more of a general hockey tradition, it can demonstrate a person's true devotion of the sport. Wear lucky socks during the playoffs or in extreme cases for the whole hockey season. Lucky socks are not usually washed or changed during the length of the playoffs.

    • 5

Don't bother getting missing or broken teeth fixed. Although Americans may be disdainful of such a practice, Canadians would understand.

    • 6

Have homes, apartments, bedrooms or offices decked out with assorted Canadian hockey paraphernalia. This may be an Oilers jersey, a signed Maple Leafs puck or a stick once touched by Wendel Clark.

    • 7

Hold the belief that American hockey teams are rich and Canadian hockey teams are poor or low-budget and therefore always at a disadvantage. Canadian hockey fans believe that the true essence or heart of the sport is evident in Canadian hockey teams.
