Step 1
Measure the canvas and cut it. The canvas can be in any shape or size.
-
Step 2
Place plastic trash bags on a large table or the floor. Make sure the bags cover the entire area where you will work on the canvas.
-
Step 3
Prime the canvas. Using a paintbrush, apply a layer of primer. The canvas will shrink slightly. The primer will make the surface ready for painting.
-
Step 4
Paint the canvas with a base coat.
-
Step 5
Place masking tape on the canvas. Mark areas for each painter. Place a line of masking tape a half inch to an inch around the outside of canvas for the edge.
-
Step 6
Draw designs or patterns on the canvas for guidelines.
-
Step 7
Paint the canvas with acrylic paints. If children are painting, allow the children to paint with brushes, paint pens or finger paints.
-
Step 8
Allow the canvas to dry. The canvas must be completely dry to proceed with the next steps.
-
Step 9
Remove the masking tape and fold the canvas edge at the line the masking tape made.
-
Step 10
Glue the folded edges to the bottom of the canvas with a hot glue gun.
-
Step 11
Apply two to three coats of waterproof varnish. This will keep the rug looking fresh longer.
-
Step 12
Attach matting to the bottom of the canvas to hold the rug in place.
