Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper
  • Pen
  • Boxes
  • Organizational Supplies
  • Files
  • Label Maker
  • Scrapbook Page Frames
  1. Step 1

Review the room. Draw a schematic plan outlining the desk, chair, shelving, storage items and computer equipment.

  2. Step 2

Plan the room using a simple drawing, noting all the major pieces of furniture and product categories such as scrapbook albums, paper, embellishments, magazines and idea books, tools, cutting tools and photos.

  3. Step 3

Sort all your supplies into boxes. Collect supplies from around the house and any other location you might have stored them. You will have a box for papers, adhesives, tools, small embellishments, magazine, card supplies and other categories.

  4. Step 4

Purchase organizational supplies as needed. This could include paper storage files or folders, embellishment boxes, a tool caddy, bulletin boards, small drawers, shelves or rolling carts.

  5. Step 5

Think vertical. Shelves, slat walls or peg boards are a great way to get supplies off a shelf and onto a wall.

  6. Step 6

Keep the most used supplies near your work space. Spend the most time and energy on your immediate work space. Make sure you have adequate lighting and work surface. Purchase an extra large mat to protect the surface and add a few artistic touches such as small frames photos to keep you motivated.

  7. Step 7

Start filing your supplies in their new location. Sort your papers by color, event, brand or use. Keep them well labeled. Sort your flat embellishments such as stickers and letters into accordion files. Organize your smallest supplies such as eyelets, fibers and brads into small boxes or tilt drawers.

  8. Step 8

Store your lesser used items farther away in the room. Your scrapbook albums, idea books, back issues of magazines, negatives and photo boxes can be stored on shelves across the room.

  9. Step 9

Label each space with its contents. Have a space for everything and keep it well organized by cleaning weekly or monthly.

  10. Step 10

Hang a few of your favorite scrapbook pages on the wall for inspiration.

  11. Step 11

Have a "To File" box near the door. Place new purchases in this box until you can file them in the correct location.

Tips & Warnings
  • Color coordinate your organizational supplies by choosing two or three signature colors. Paint the room in this color and purchase boxes, shelves and file folders in this color as well.
  • Store your scrapbook albums upright. By laying them flat, you can damage the pages and photos.
