A wall fountain is a great way to revitalize any room, giving it a striking focal point and the relaxing sound of flowing water. The process of installing a wall fountain varies by model and you should always follow the instructions that come in the box, but these fountain hanging guidelines can help you get an idea of what is involved in hanging a small, lightweight fountain.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Wall Fountain
  • Pencil
  • Level
  • Anchors
  • Hammer
  • Screw
  • Philips Head Screwdriver

Step1
Read the instruction manual that comes with your new fountain all the way through before you begin. Some fountains may require assembly before you start the hanging process.
Step2
Have a friend help you hold your fountain up where you want it to be placed, using a level to ensure that it is straight.
Step3
Draw a line to mark the location of the top of the fountain on the wall with a pencil.
Step4
Look at the back of your fountain. There should either be saw-tooth hanging clips, brackets or some other hanging mechanism located either in the top center or on either side of the top of the fountain.
Step5
Measure the location of the hanging mechanism(s) from the top and sides of the fountain. Mark them on the wall with a pencil.
Step6
Tap the anchors into the wall with a hammer up to the threads in the locations you marked. Screw them all the way into the wall with a screwdriver.
Step7
Screw the screws into the anchors, leaving 1/8" of each screw protruding from the wall.
Step8
Slide the fountain's hanging mechanisms over the screws securely.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure to choose a location where a wall outlet is accessible. Extension cords should not be used with water fountains.
  • If you want to hide the power cord, you can have a GFI power outlet installed in the wall directly behind where the fountain will be placed, toward the center. If the fountain has a conventional (not flat) plug, the outlet should be recessed.
  • Anchors made especially for hanging fountains are often included with the fountain, along with screws or other hanging hardware. If you have to buy your own anchors, make sure they have a high weight capacity.
  • Heavier fountains must be hung from wall studs, wood or metal.
  • These instructions are meant as a basic guide to hang small, lightweight wall fountains. Always follow the instructions that come with the fountain. Heavy, dual or triple panel wall fountains made of materials such as slate or stone should be installed by professional contractors.
