Things You'll Need:
- Computer With Internet Access
- String
- Measuring Tape
- Thumb Tacks
-
Step 1
Decide where you want to place your new wall fountain. It should be a flat wall with plenty of empty space to work with and an accessible electrical outlet.
-
Step 2
Focus on the wall length and ceiling height. A vertical wall fountain is great for high-ceilinged rooms, while a horizontal fountain is best for rooms with below average or average ceiling height.
-
Step 3
Consider the depth of the space. The area where you want to place your wall fountain should be wide enough to accommodate the depth of the fountain and still allow plenty of room for people to walk by without bumping into it. An average fountain is about 6 inches in depth.
-
Step 4
Determine what you are looking for, style-wise. Wall fountains come in a wide variety of styles and materials, from sleek and modern stainless steel to classic cast stone. Your new wall fountain should blend in well with the interior design style already present in the room.
-
Step 5
Browse wall fountains online at a fountain retailer website. Choose a few fountains that may be appropriate for the space, both in style and size, and write down the measurements.
-
Step 6
Measure out the dimensions of one of the fountains you chose on the wall, and mark off the four corners with thumb tacks.
-
Step 7
Wrap string around the thumb tacks and tie the ends together. Back up and look at the outline of the fountain dimensions as they fit in with other elements on the wall.
-
Step 8
Repeat with your other fountain measurements.
-
Step 9
Choose the fountain with dimensions and looks that are best for the space and place your order.

on 2/28/2008 You've hit the nail on the head. Wall fountains are my absolute favorite and I believe a very under rated home decor item. A well placed wall fountain can add a touch a class and elegance that it tough to beat. This is a very well written piece!
