If your youngster has a birthday coming and they like a certain yellow sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea, then it sounds like a SpongeBob birthday party is in order. Undersea theme parties are very popular so finding decorations and activities is easy. Once you do that, add a couple of things like a pink starfish named Patrick or a clarinet playing octopus, and you're on your way. Read on to learn how to throw a SpongeBob themed birthday party for kids.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Party Favors and Prizes
  • Hamburgers
  • Plastic or Paper Fish
  • Blue and Turquoise Crepe Streamers
  • Play Sand
  • Plastic Sea Creatures
  • Empty Plastic Water Bottles
  • Large Clean Sponge
  • Goldfish Crackers
  • Temporary Tattoos
  • Sugar Cookies and Icing
  • Brown Grocery Bag
  • Plastic Coconut Cups
  • Pineapple

Step1
Save enough small plastic water bottles to use for party invitations. Add some play sand and a plastic sea creature or two. Then print the invitations on your computer, roll them up and insert in the bottle. Place the cap back on tightly and tie a note to it that says "You're Invited." This way guests will know it is an invitation.
Step2
Hang dark blue and turquoise streamers from one point on the wall to another and repeat all over the room so they look like waves. Then above the streamers, make a little island out of a brown grocery bag and tape it to the wall along with a palm tree. Hang fish or other creatures from the ceiling so it gives the illusion that you are under the sea at Bikini Bottom.
Step3
Set up a table with temporary SpongeBob themed tattoos. As party guests arrive, have them go to the table to get pictures of Patrick or SpongeBob on their faces while they are waiting for everyone else to arrive.
Step4
Play a version of Hot Potato except use a big water-filled sponge to pass around. Play the SpongeBob theme song while kids pass the sponge and when the music stops, the person holding the sponge gets eliminated. Continue play until there is only one person left. Give party favors to each guest as they get eliminated and have a nice prize for the winner.
Step5
Serve hamburgers and call them crabby patties along with goldfish crackers and pineapple. If kids don't like hamburgers, substitute any other type of sandwich and just serve it on a hamburger bun. Instead of birthday cake, make starfish shaped sugar cookies and set them out with icing and sprinkles and let kids decorate their own.
Step6
As the birthday child opens a present, the gift giver receives a treat as well. Get some plastic coconut cups and fill them with theme appropriate candies and toys. Plastic sea creatures, gummy fish, SpongeBob stickers or bottles of bubbles will work well.
