Caring for your "crown of glory" with natural ingredients is not difficult or expensive. The chemicals in artificial conditioners leave your hair looking limp and lifeless. Procuring the right kind of conditioner to suit your hair and the changing weather could be a never-ending process. With the familiar ingredients available in your kitchen shelves and some essential oils and herbs, you can have a spa treatment at a friendly cost.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Essential oil
  • Herbs
  • Warm towel

    Before Wash

  1. Step 1

Pretreat your hair with henna paste. Add 1 cup of henna powder, one egg white, a 1/2 cup of yogurt, a few teaspoons of tea extract and a few drops of fresh lemon. Apply this paste to hair before washing and leave it on for half an hour. Henna is a natural moisturizer, yogurt and lemon cure dandruff and the protein in egg repairs damaged hair.

  2. Step 2

Massage your hair with oils like coconut, olive or almond. Slightly warm the oil and massage it into your hair and scalp using your fingertips. Leave it overnight or apply an hour before washing and wrap the hair in a steamed towel for better penetration of oil into the scalp. Oil softens hair and keeps it manageable.

  3. Step 3

Mix a small jar of mayonnaise and half an avocado. Smooth this mixture into hair from roots to tips and cover it with a hot towel for deep conditioning. Wash it with shampoo after 20 minutes. The vitamin E and B6 in avocado gives a healthy glow to the hair.

  4. Step 4

Add a few drops of rosemary essential oil to half cup of warmed olive oil. Massage it into damp hair and leave it for one hour. Wash and rinse it out with cold water. Rosemary stimulates hair growth and cures itchy scalp. It also adds a natural fragrance to the hair.

  5. After Wash

  6. Step 1

Boil used tea leaves in water to use it as a final rinse. Similarly, you can also use beer (after it fizzes out) or vinegar with water. This gives a natural shine to the hair.

  7. Step 2

Mix 1 teaspoon of honey with the juice of a fresh lemon in 1 liter of water. Pour it through hair after rinsing and let it dry.

  8. Step 3

Add 1/2 cup of any herbs like chamomile, sage, rosemary, marjoram, jasmine, cinnamon bark, lavender, ylang ylang, tea tree or peppermint to two cups of water. Bring it to a boil, cool and strain it. Pour it through hair after washing out the shampoo. Do not rinse it out.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never wash your hair in hot water, as this will strip away the natural oils in your hair and makes it dry.
  • Avoid using any ingredients if you are allergic to them.
