Interviewing for a flight attendant job requires skill. Trying to break into this elite group of jet-setters is very competitive. If you are fortunate enough to have landed a flight attendant interview, you have one chance to make a lasting impression. There are some basic but necessary steps you should follow to increase the likelihood of succeeding.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Professional clothing
  • Confidence
  • Good attitude
  • Smile

Step1
Make travel arrangements to the location of the interview. If you are flying, try to arrive the night before the flight attendant interview. Cancellations and delays are unpredictable. If you are driving, leave extra early to avoid traffic.
Step2
Dress in a business-conservative style. Look the part. Wear a business suit. Women should wear skirts that are at least knee-length or longer; pantyhose should be worn with skirts or dresses. A professional closed-toe shoe is appropriate. Jewellery should be kept to a minimum. Dangling earrings may get you noticed, but not in a positive way. This is not the time to wear nightclub garb.
Step3
Groom yourself in a professional manner. Long hair looks better if it is pulled up or tied back. Present clean and manicured hands and nails. Stay away from loud nail polish colors. A conservative amount of make-up is desired for women.
Step4
Arrive on time for the interview. A flight attendant career is regulated by the clock. This will be your first test. If you can't make it to the interview on time, they assume you will be late for your scheduled flights. Give yourself enough time to be at the interview venue at least 15 to 20 minutes early.
Step5
Speak with confidence and keep good eye contact with people to whom you talk. Chances are you will have to stand in front of a room full of people and say something about yourself. Practice ahead of time. You don't want to sound rehearsed, but it may make you feel at ease to be somewhat prepared.
Step6
Smile frequently. This gives a friendly and warm feeling to everyone with whom you communicate.
Step7
Project a positive attitude. The interviewer may mention all of the negative aspects of the job to see your reaction. You will most likely have to relocate. You will have to work nights, weekends, holidays and long hours. Make it known that you are willing to do whatever the job demands.
Step8
Convey the importance of airline safety and security as the flight attendant's primary objectives.
Step9
Thank the interviewer at the closing of the interview. It is best to leave with a smile and a handshake.
