How to Behave at an Amusement Park

A day out at a theme park like Walt Disney World is meant to be a fun diversion from everyday stress and strain, so don't let the noise and crowds dissuade you from having a good time. Maintain a pleasant and courteous attitude and even hot weather or the occasional surly customer in line next to you won't spoil your family's day at the amusement park.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Exercise courtesy while waiting in queues. Many popular rides such as trendy, super fast roller coasters have extraordinarily long wait times. Have people in your group take turns to get food or go on bathroom breaks. Be cognizant of the folks in line around you. If you see people try to jump the line, contact a park employee.
Step2
Queue for shows and concerts early if you want the best view. Sure, the wait can be almost as long as for blockbuster rides, but if you bring plenty of refreshments and chat with the folks in line next to you, it won't seem as bad.
Step3
Observe posted signs about photo taking and Camcorders. When picture taking and Camcorders are allowed, be mindful of people walking past and other activities around you. Always ask an employee if picture taking is allowed in a particular area if you're not sure about the rules.
Step4
Smoke outside of queues and ride areas. Passive smoke can cause breathing difficulties and nausea in some individuals. Fast roller coasters and "thrill" rides can acerbate these problems, so always smoke away from large groups.
Step5
Dispose of food and drink properly. Use park provided waste receptacles. Clear off your tray after eating at outdoor dining areas. After all, you would expect other people to do the same.
Step6
Guard your items carefully. Secure them to your body with a strap when on "thrill" rides, or have a friend who is not riding watch them. Take any items that others have lost to the amusement park's lost and found.
Step7
Understand the pressure that ride attendants may be under on busy days. Hold up the appropriate number of fingers to indicate the number of riders in your group if the ride area is noisy as you are about to board. Listen to the attendant's directions and wait patiently for him or her to check restraints. It may take awhile if the ride is filled to capacity, but attendants are trained to be thorough and ensure customers' safety.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't goof off on rides. One upraised arm or misplaced foot can cause major injuries.
  • Don't take chances with your health. Pay attention to the medical disclaimers posted by amusement park rides, and heed them.

on 7/21/2008 Check the map before you light up. Some parks have specific smoking areas. These are there for a reason, as lighting up in a crowded area can not only induce breathing problems, but also has been known to lead of burns to bystanders. Also, park attendants rarely take much of a stance on line jumpers, and will just look at you like you're crazy if you say anything. Also, all line jumpers will come up with some excuse for why they are more important and/or deny they did it. Stand with your legs apart and make yourself look big and people will be less inclined to cut (seriously, this works). Finally, use common sense. Do not instruct children to pee in public. Do not change a baby's diaper in eating areas. Do not use a stroller/wheelchair as a battering ram. Common sense sometimes leaves a person at a theme park, so be sure to keep your's.
