While it may not be true that most photocopies of peoples' behinds were taken at the office Christmas party, it is true that quite often inappropriate behavior occurs at office parties. The consequences of poor choices made at the office Christmas party are worse than a hangover the next morning. Stay employed and keep some dignity by practicing some common sense at the office Christmas party.

  1. Step 1

Limit the liquor. Remaining sober is just common sense and prevents any alcohol-induced stupidity.

  2. Step 2

Control your conversation. Remember, even though this is a party and you may consider your colleagues your friends, this is not the place to air strong political, religious or social opinions. This also applies to limiting office gossip, unflattering comments about co-workers and taboo topics.

  3. Step 3

Keep your hands to yourself. Your date may be extremely yummy but this is not the place to display your appreciation for her assets. The same rule applies to your interactions with everyone else in attendance.

  4. Step 4

Keep an eye on your guests. Be responsible for people you bring to the party. Even if you remain sober and on your best behavior, your guests may not. Be careful they don't ruin your good time or, more importantly, ruin your boss's opinion of you.

  5. Step 5

Dress appropriately. The office party is not the place to wear a super sexy dress. Also, casual attire is not an excuse to be sloppy.

  6. Step 6

Socialize. Make the rounds. Visit and socialize with your colleagues. Take this opportunity to talk about things other than work. Learn a lot about your colleagues as people not just as co-workers.
