Heat rash, also known as prickly heat, is a common problem in which sweat gets trapped beneath the skin, causing small bumps, redness and a prickly, itchy feeling in the area. The condition is found most often in hot, humid environments. Normally, heat rash will go away within a few days but in the meantime, there are a few things you can do to treat the rash.

      Provide a cooler, less humid environment for the person suffering from the heat rash. Remove or loosen clothing from the area with the heat rash to help cool it down. Showers or cool baths can also help.

      Keep the area dry to encourage healing and prevent the condition from getting worse. Avoid activities that will increase sweat production or will keep the area damp for extended periods of time.

      Use powder to help comfort the area. Avoid using lotions or ointments as these will keep the area moist rather than helping to dry it out. Also avoid using oil-based products on the area as it will slow the defoliation process.

      Dry the area by applying calamine lotion. Calamine lotion will also help ease the itchy, prickly feeling.

      Stay out of hot, humid environments until the area has cleared up. Wear loose clothing and seek air conditioned or cool areas to remain in.

      Take multiple showers and air dry to help unplug and clean the sweat glands in the area. Mild antibacterial soaps can be used help keep the area clean and prevent future outbreaks.
