Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Sign up for your own space online at a free or low cost website provider. Some popular destinations include Blogger, Freewebs, Homestead and Yahoo! GeoCities.
Step2
Choose a scheme or template that fills your immediate needs best after you've completed your host's registration procedures. You can always change the look and feel of your website later.
Step3
Get acquainted with your new website's content management tool. This tool will help you build your website. Most website providers have great administration features, but if you have any questions on how to build a site with the tools provided you can contact them via email, chat or sometimes even via telephone.
Step4
Write an article or introduction to your website, and upload a picture or two as well. Most website providers allow a certain number of pictures to be uploaded for free. Use the content management tool to complete these tasks.
Step5
Announce the launch of your new website. Let your friends, colleagues or business partners know it's ready and where it's located using an email message, a press release or another means of communication that's suitable for your purposes.
Step6
List your website for free in some Internet directories and search engines. The Interactive Marketing, Inc. website has some tips on how to do this.
Step7
Place some advertisements on the site. Even if your site is a personal one, it doesn't hurt to try to generate a little revenue from it. Many website providers have partnerships with search engine advertisers such as Google, Yahoo! and MSN; contact your provider for further assistance.
