Bridesmaid dresses have come a long way. From the fluffy and puffy, over the top gowns of past decades which no one would hope to wear again, today's gowns for the maids are often full of style, class and simplicity. Whatever the style or size of your wedding party, choose bridesmaids dresses that will reflect the tone of the wedding.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start shopping in advance. Some bridal salons require an ordering period of 5 months prior to the wedding date.

  2. Step 2

Try looking in department stores, or consider having the gowns made by hand if you prefer less planning time.

  3. Step 3

Flip through the latest bridal magazines to get a flavor of what is current and trendy, while looking at colors and styles that pique your interest and tastes.

  4. Step 4

Consider the body shapes and sizes of your bridesmaids when considering the cut and length of the dresses.

  5. Step 5

Consult with a few of your bridesmaids once you've narrowed down your decisions. Second opinions don't hurt—especially when they are the ones who'll be wearing the dresses for the day.

  6. Step 6

Be cost-conscious. Remember that in addition to the gown, your bridesmaids will be investing in shoes and accessories, hair up-dos, gifts, possibly travel expenses and more.

  7. Step 7

Consider letting bridesmaids wear dresses of their own choice. Giving them a color to follow can help maintain an uniform look while incorporating personalization.
