How to Make a Smart Playlist in iTunes
Creating a smart playlist is a great way to get the most out of iTunes. This will instruct the software to search through the music, video or podcast library and create a new playlist based on certain common features of the tracks. Smart playlists can be built around several different characteristics, including genre, total memory used or even personal rating.

Select the "New Smart Playlist" from under the Files heading at the top of the iTunes screen.

Choose a category from the drop down list that best applies to the list desired (there are over 30 choices). Genre is a great way to pick only certain types of music.

Narrow the field by selecting items from the "Limit to" section, if desired. First, check the box to enable this feature and then select categories from both the first (size and time selections) and second (genres, titles, ratings and such).

Enable the "Live Update" feature by making sure that it has a check mark in its box. This will continue to add new music to the playlist as applicable titles are added to the iTunes library on the computer.
