Things You'll Need:
- Washing machine hoses (if not supplied)
- Drain hose extension (if necessary)
- Pipe wrench or lockjaw pliers
- Level
- Screwdriver (for hose bracket/installation)
-
Step 1
Place the washing machine near the water hook ups and drain. Check to see that the machine is level. Adjust the feet, most simply screw in and out, by tipping the machine forward or backward to access the feet until machine is as level as possible. Remove any bolts securing the drum for shipping.
-
Step 2
Attach plastic drain hose as per manufacturer's instructions. It will need to rise above the height of the washer and then turn downward (creating an inverted U-bend that is higher than the machine itself) in order to function properly, and most manufacturers supply a bracket to screw the hose into position against a wall. An extension of PVC or hose maybe be necessary to channel exhaust water to the floor drain; any extension must be of a diameter equal to or greater than the exhaust hose to prevent back-ups.
-
Step 3
Connect hot and cold water hoses to the back of the machine (only one end of the hoses will fit on the machine, the other fits on standard supply faucets). Use only new hoses, and check that the rubber gaskets are in place. Tighten with a set of lockjaw pliers or a wrench.
-
Step 4
Screw the hot and cold water hoses to the proper water faucets and tighten with lock-jaws or a wrench. Turn the faucets at least one of their full rotations into the on position.
-
Step 5
Check connections at machine and faucet for leaking and tighten as necessary.
-
Step 6
Plug washing machine into a wall socket, preferably above the machine and away from the potential path of any leaking water. Operate according to manufacturer's instructions.
