How to Have an International Relationship

Long distance relationships can be difficult enough without having them traverse different continents. True romance knows no bounds, and it is more than possible to have a successful, fulfilling international relationship. The key, as with any relationship, is commitment, communication and dedication.

Instructions

    • 1

Openly discuss what each of you expects from your romance. Communication is of utmost importance. Determine ways in which you will correspond, how often you will meet and where you will meet. Discuss the intimate parts of your relationship-if and how the physical will play a role.

    • 2

Plan the specific dates, times and places for your first few rendezvous; this is essential in making sure they actually happen.

    • 3

Research and learn about the culture of your companion. Different societies have different expectations when it comes to proper relationship behavior. Be sensitive to the unique cultural norms in one another's society. What you may view as 'normal' may not be to your significant other.

    • 4

Write letters, email, and phone often. Talk about specific happenings, as well as others in your life. Refer to your partner in conversation to those who are closest to you. You want your love interest to feel like they are a part of your daily life.

    • 5

Learn about and be involved with your partner's hobbies and favorite pastimes. It is important to find things in common that will bind you across the distance.

    • 6

Be patient and make your relationship a priority. If it is to thrive, you must put in the time and energy the international relationship needs.

Tips & Warnings

  • No relationship is perfect. Expect for there to be some bumps, but if both parties are committed your international relationship can weather the storm.

It is definitly something to work for. As long as both of u is honest of expectations and willing to be patient...it will work out. I am from the United States and my partner is from the UK (originally from Africa) and let me tell you it has its challenges. There is a lot of language and cultural barriers. But love conquers all and if u have a wonderful and understanding mate like i do, then it is worth it. Good luck and be open to all possibilities love has for u 2!
