Long distance relationships can be difficult enough without having them traverse different continents. 3. Research and learn about the culture of your companion. Different societies have different expectations when it comes to proper relationship behavior. Be sensitive to the unique cultural norms in one another's society. What you may view as 'normal' may not be to your significant other.

4. Write letters, email, and phone often. Talk about specific happenings, as well as others in your life. Refer to your partner in conversation to those who are closest to you. You want your love interest to feel like they are a part of your daily life.

5. Learn about and be involved with your partner's hobbies and favorite pastimes. It is important to find things in common that will bind you across the distance.

6. Be patient and make your relationship a priority. If it is to thrive, you must put in the time and energy the international relationship needs.
