Video games are more than toys for kids these days. The popularity of video games is a part of our society and as such it demands opinions. Becoming a gaming fanboy will allow you to spread those opinions on message boards, blogs, podcasts and wherever else you can get your voice heard. There is something pleasing about pledging your loyalty to one gaming company and tearing the others apart.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Basic Fanboyism

Step1
Choose a gaming company to pledge your undying allegiance. Make sure you are happy with your choice because you will not be able to take up another side without changing your online or real identity.
Step2
Do not admit any flaws in your gaming company of choice. Even if you think that there are flaws with your manufacturer's console, never admit it to anyone that is a fanboy of another company
Step3
Call out everyone else for being a biased fanboy, but when confronted about your own views be sure to say that you are just being honest.

Nintendo Fanboyism

Step1
Reminisce on the good old days. Nintendo was the gaming king at one point and the name Nintendo was synonymous with video games. Tout the virtual console on the Wii as the greatest way to relive your childhood.
Step2
Break the kiddy image. Since the controversy over the violence in Mortal Kombat, Nintendo has been branded as a kid's console maker. Use examples like Resident Evil 4 and Manhunt 2 to show that there is a good amount of gore on Nintendo systems.
Step3
Explain the dominance of the Wii. Make sure to talk about the motion controls and low price point. Innovation and affordability is what gaming is about after all.
Step4
Use Mario as your ultimate example of a video game character and franchise. There is not a more recognized video game figure than the beloved Italian plumber.

Sony Fanboyism

Step1
Point out the dominance of the Playstation 2. The PS2 easily outsold the competition during its life cycle proving that Sony is go-to place for good games.
Step2
Talk about the value of the Playstation 3. Sure it cost more than the other systems, but it has built-in Wi-Fi, a Blu-Ray movie player and motion sensing controls to boot. Don't forget to mention the potential, regardless of how great or poorly the system is doing.
Step3
Pull out the technical dominance argument. The Playstation 3 on a technical level is the superior console regardless of if that technology is ever utilized.

Microsoft Fanboyism

Step1
Argue that the Xbox 360 is the most balanced console. It has the upper hand in technical prowess over the Wii but the price advantage over the Playstation 3. It has hardcore games like Gears of War but is also family friendly with games like Viva Piñata.
Step2
Enlighten others of the amazing service that is Xbox Live. While there is a price to it, Xbox Live allows the best online functionality for a gaming console and has a proven track record. It has defined how online gaming works in the console market.
Step3
Brag about how hardcore the Xbox 360 is. It is loud, it gets hot and it potentially scratches game disks, and it has some of the meanest, goriest and most gruesome games around, which proves that it is hardcore.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are really brave, become a Sega fanboy and take up the argument that the Dreamcast is a viable console in the contemporary market.
  • Never openly praise another company. This will only hurt your credibility as a fanboy.
