How to Dress To Take the DAT

The Dental Admission Test (DAT) is the entrance examination you need to take to be admitted to any U.S. dental school. You'll take the test on a computer, and you'll be sitting for a long period of time. Here are some tips for dressing appropriately and comfortably, so you can take a bite out of the DAT.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Dress in layers. DAT testing room temperatures can vary widely from stuffy to chilly. Allow yourself the ability to adjust your own thermostat quickly by adding or removing layers.
Step2
Wear clothing with a comfortable, loose-fitting wastband. You will be sitting down for this test, and you don't want your pants or skirt cutting into your waist.
Step3
Put on comfortable shoes that allow your feet to breathe. Choose lightweight socks if you are wearing shoes that require them.
Step4
Carry a light jacket or sweater that can be draped over a chair when not in use.
Step5
Use perfume or cologne sparingly, if at all. Fragrances can cause headaches and trigger allergies, and may distract others around you.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try on your clothes the night before the exam. Make sure they fit comfortably and are not too tight.
  • Keep long hair out of your face. Use a ponytail or wear sunglasses on the top of your head.
  • Avoid wearing jewelry that dangles or rattles to keep from distracting yourself and others during the DAT.
