Deciding who to invite to an encore wedding reception can be a somewhat stressful task. Some guests may not feel like they need to go because they already went to one of your weddings, while others would be very hurt if they were not invited. If you are planning an encore wedding, here are some things to keep in mind when making out the guest list.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Invitations
  1. Step 1

Decide how big of an encore wedding and reception you want. If you will be going more traditional, you can probably invite more guests to the ceremony and reception. If you are having a destination wedding that requires extensive travel, not as many people will be able to make it to your encore wedding and reception.

  2. Step 2

Create a list with your fiancé of all friends and family that you would like to have at your encore wedding and reception.

  3. Step 3

Find out how many guests the reception venue will accommodate. This will give you a number to create your final invite list around.

  4. Step 4

Trim your original list down by placing guests into a ranking system based on how important it is for them to be there. For example, family and close friends would be at the top of the list, while acquaintances that you have not spoken to in a while might be at the bottom.

  5. Step 5

Send out invitations around eight weeks ahead of the wedding in order to allow for enough time for travel arrangements to be made for out of town guests. If a large number of guests are unable to attend, you will still have enough time to send out a second round of invitations to your wedding ceremony and reception.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep in mind that weddings receptions are expensive. The more people who attend, the greater the cost.
  • Expect about 85 percent of invited guests to attend the reception. Figure in that some people do not respond, while others will not be able to make it unexpectedly.
  • Be cautious about inviting your ex spouse or ex in-laws. This could make other guests uncomfortable.
  • If a guest is from the second round of invitations, do not let them know. The ranking system is for you and your spouse only.
