Since you can make your encore wedding as formal or as informal as you wish, hiring a caterer for an encore wedding should be as easy as hiring a caterer for any other event. Here are some things to consider when choosing a caterer for an encore wedding reception.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A caterer
  1. Step 1

Choose a reception time. The menu options and caterer choices will be different based on the time of day. Since most encore weddings are more casual events, you might want to find a caterer that offers a variety of options for a menu, such as a brunch service or a cocktail and appetizer only menu.

  2. Step 2

Ask co-workers, family, friends and neighbors for recommendations. Chances are they will know of someone. If not, you can always ask the reception venue if they work with preferred vendors.

  3. Step 3

Consider the number of guests you will have at the reception and how many people you will need to feed. Since it is an encore wedding, your invite list might be smaller than a first wedding and you might not be feeding as many people. Your caterer might need a minimum number of plates for certain entrees.

  4. Step 4

Create an ideal menu for your encore reception. If you have a theme, stick with it. If you are having a casual ceremony and reception, you probably won't be serving caviar or lobster and filet mignon.

  5. Step 5

Arrange to meet with a few caterers to sample their menus. This will make your decision easier. They should also be able to offer you help on what is popular and what is recommended depending on your reception time.

  6. Step 6

Confirm that the caterer you choose is available on your wedding date.

Tips & Warnings
  • Encore wedding doesn't necessarily mean it is the second time down the aisle for both. It might only be the second time for one and if you want to go all out, go ahead!
  • Certain times of the year are more popular and therefore more expensive for weddings and receptions. Fall and winter weddings may offer a less expensive menu, and they can be just as beautiful as summer and spring weddings.
  • If your reception is at dinner time, guests will probably be ready for dinner and a cocktail and appetizer reception might be a disappointment.
  • Before hiring a caterer, make sure your reception venue allows outside caterers. Some do their own catering.
