Sambo is a martial art that was intended to be a single style of self-defense. But since its introduction from native Russians Anatoly Kharlampiev, Viktor Spiridonov, and a European accomplice Vasili Oschepkov, it has greatly evolved. Finding the right class for you will depend on the combat Sambo form you are interested in learning.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Decide if you want to learn Sambo as a self-defense tactic. It will lead you into the direction of styles similar to Aikido or Jujitsu. It instructs you to fend off armed and unarmed attackers using your body in a deflective way.
Step2
Understand that Combat Sambo is a form created for military personnel and includes learning to attack with weapons and also how to disarm someone with one. This style mimics different versions of Judo which includes broad forms of hitting and wrestling.
Step3
Know that gaining Sport Sambo skills is similar to Judo or wrestling. It is widely known for its leg locks as submission holds.
Step4
Choose the Sambo defense style you would like to learn. Searching for the type of class becomes easy once you figure out if you want the Self-defense, Combat or Sport style.
Step5
Check on a community online source such as Craigslist and click on the state you reside in. Type in a search for the type of Sambo you are looking for, and browse through the given results.
Step6
Look up online message boards to attend a Sambo style or martial arts sponsored event or even to meet other people who are also interested in learning the martial art.
Step7
Pick up a neighborhood phone book, or the local classifieds, or look online to search directories for classes in your area.
