Step 1
Come prepared. Someone ready to tackle a vert ramp should already have months of experience on a mini half-pipe ramp. Whether you're riding in-line skates, a skateboard or a bike make sure that your gear is solid and that all nuts and bolts are secure. Also, a helmet, elbow pads, and knee pads are crucial to surviving the vert ramp in one piece.
-
Step 2
Commit to the drop-in. When you drop into the half-pipe ramp, make sure that you do so with confidence and full commitment, despite the stomach-turning nature of the drop. A hesitation could cause you to lean backwards or lose balance, resulting in a potentially dangerous fall.
-
Step 3
Pump both walls of the vert ramp to gain speed and momentum. Going up and down the walls of the ramp will help you get the feel for the ramp and gain enough speed and confidence to perform a trick.
-
Step 4
Fall with grace. Although it might be counter-intuitive, there are good ways and bad ways to fall. On the vert ramp, if you feel yourself falling, try to lean back and tuck your feet under your legs so that you can slide down the ramp on your knee pads. This way you can slow down without hitting your head, neck or back and increase your chances of surviving the vert.
