Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find a good collection of vert videos online. Online vert videos provide a good background into the components and culture of riding a vert ramp and, best of all, online videos are generally free. Check out sites like Lat 34 to find a collection of top-quality vert videos.

  2. Step 2

Watch pro videos. Videos showing professional skateboarders like Tony Hawk will give you an example of the perfect vert run. Pay attention to how the pros prepare, drop in, perform tricks and stop themselves on the ramp. Spend plenty of time with each video to glean the most knowledge from each vert run.

  3. Step 3

Turn to amateur videos to understand where people go wrong. After seeing the pros do it right, it's important to watch amateurs to discover common pitfalls and dangers so that you can try to avoid them when it comes to your turn on the vert ramp. Search for vert videos on websites like YouTube to find a diverse collection of vert videos.

  4. Step 4

Discuss videos you watch in online skateboarding forums. Ask questions on discussion forums like the one at Skater's Cafe and provide links to specific videos in order to get the analysis of other skaters. Sparking a dialog between yourself and a few other skateboarders will enable you to get multiple perspectives on how to conquer the vert ramp.

  5. Step 5

Make your own vert video. Once you have become confident and comfortable enough with your skateboarding skills to approach the vert ramp, ask a friend to video your own vert runs. Go back and review the footage to look for places to improve. If you're feeling a little bold, place your video online for other skaters to criticize and comment.
