Skysurfing competitions are not as numerous as they were when the sport first became popular, but there are still many quality events to see. Those include the World and European Championships in Artistic Events and the FAI World Artistic Skydiving Championships. Here are some sources for tracking the events you want to attend.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check with the U.S. Parachute Association. Each year, the USPA holds its National Skydiving Championships, which recognize the best athletes in seven disciplines, including Artistic Events. That category includes skysurfing as a separate competitive event. The USPA also conducts the National Collegiate Parachuting Championships for the diving community. See the USPA website for details on those events and others throughout the world. Links to the events will tell you whether skysurfing is featured.

  2. Step 2

Visit the National Aeronautic Association online. The NAA maintains a calendar of air sports events planned worldwide. Look through those for skydiving competitions, which may include skysurfing. The NAA provides links to the organizations sponsoring the events. Go to those sites for details.

  3. Step 3

Look to the International Federation for Air Sports (FAI). This worldwide umbrella organization posts an extensive air sports calendar of events with a separate page for skydiving competitions. Locations of some of the events listed include Italy, Russia, Thailand and Taipei. Click on the provided links for further information.

  4. Step 4

Drop in at Drop Zone. This information-packed site has an event calendar page that helps you find events occurring within the next week! For longer range planning, events are also indexed by month. The locations listed are mostly in the U.S.

  5. Step 5

See Sports123. This wide-ranging sports news and information site keeps a calendar of parachuting events, which is routinely updated. The site also provides coverage of events and posts the results.

  6. Step 6

Enjoy events on video. The next best thing to being there is seeing skysurfing like the athletes do--up close, and personal! Many events are recorded by "camera fliers," and the video is later made available on DVDs for sale or through downloads on the Web. Check the event websites to find out if they have video available. Recordings of older events may also be found at video rental stores and public libraries.
