So you've got an extreme snowmobile, and you've got extreme snowmobile gear, and those gnarly trails are calling to you even louder than ever. But, you're still not ready—not yet. Now, you've got to get extreme snowmobiling equipment. Learn what equipment you need and how to buy it.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make a list of basic equipment you'll need to transport the extreme snowmobile, such as a trailer, sled slides or a dolly to help you move the extreme snowmobile around when it's not on the snow, and possibly a trailer trax kit to help you get the extreme snowmobile on and off your trailer more easily. Include a snowmobile cover to protect the extreme snowmobile while it's being transported or stored.

  2. Step 2

Purchase snowmobile equipment to help you improve control of the extreme snowmobile. Buy improved grips for the handlebars, running board inserts to improve foot traction, and custom windshields that are lower and allow better visibility for extreme snowmobiling. Go to a local sports equipment store or online. The sites online are numerous, like Xtreme Parts, Xtreme Sled Parts, and Mountain Addiction.

  3. Step 3

Improve the performance of the extreme snowmobile's engine, and make a list of extreme equipment, including ski protectors to protect your extreme snowmobile skis, a hood bib to keep the powder out of the louvers of the engine compartment, riser blocks for the engine, high performance belts to increase the engine's performance and power, track porting that prevents snow build-up in the rear suspension and increases cooling, a cooler kit to improve horsepower by keeping the engine cool, and a belt drive system to replace the chain case drive system.

  4. Step 4

Buy a cover locally at a sports supply store or on line at such sites as Sportsman's Guide, Cover to Tarp, or Cover Quest. The same goes for a trailer trax kit. A local sports equipment store that sells snowmobile trailers should have covers, or buy them online at Sportsman's Guide or Off-Grid.

  5. Step 5

Find a trailer. Buy used or new, saving yourself some money. Check out classifieds, or any store that sells snowmobile trailers. Look online, but it may be cheaper to buy locally, saving yourself shipping costs.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make certain that you get extreme snowmobiling equipment that is designed for the engine of your extreme snowmobile. The wrong equipment will ruin the engine.
