There are a number of things that might come in handy for competitive eating. Buying the necessary gear to be successful in this sport is easy. Common sense items might give you a slight competitive edge or at least an interesting look. Non-binding clothing is the first thing to think about.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Cover your eyes with goggles or a swim mask if you are worried about flying food. Generally these events are 10 to 12 minutes and getting something stuck in your eye could really slow things down.
Step2
Use a head lamp to keep your work plate well illuminated. For many competitive eating events, the debris left over on the plate is weighed at the end to be taken off of the total consumed. Having your own light will allow you to see what you are doing.
Step3
Wear loose clothing that does not interfere with getting food to your mouth. Sweat pants or loose fitting shorts are a good idea. Be careful in that you might end up on a stage that is higher than the spectators, if there is no table cloth, they will get a good view of what you are wearing from the front.
Step4
Find official IFOCE merchandise on their website. There are hats, T-shirts, drink coolers/holders, books and CDs.
