How to Feed a Pet Mouse

Feeding your pet mouse is not demanding. There is very little preparation and hardly anytime involved. A nice assortment of nourishing dry foods, treats, chews and vegetables are available for your pet mouse. This balanced array of foodstuff is designed to give your mouse the nourishment that will keep it healthy and playful.

  1. How to Choose a Balanced Diet

      Go to your local pet store or other pet food supplier. There will be many varieties of dry foods, treats, and other nutritional items to pick from. A salesperson will gladly help you.

      Pick a well balanced pellet diet. This will be the main course.

      Choose a food block for gnawing. Your mouse will love to feed on this. These come in various flavors and types. Your pet will let you know which one it likes!

      Select treats. An assortment of nibble bars, sticks, fruits, cones and yogurt chips are but a few stocked by the store.

      Place the dry pellets or food blocks into a clean bowl making sure not to overfill. This should be changed daily or sooner if you spot urine or droppings in the container.

      Wash any fruit or vegetable such as a small carrot or apple wedge before placing into the vegetable holder. Notice if the mouse has any adverse reactions, such as diarrhea. Change its diet as needed. Be sure to remove any of these uneaten portions by the next day.

      Place a food block into the cage. The mouse needs to wear its teeth down and this supplement will help.

      Give your mouse treats, keeping the amount between 10 percent and 20 percent of its daily consumption.

      Double-check the water bottle making sure enough water is available.

  • Wash all food containers daily if needed.

  • Dry kitten food will not harm a mouse but should only be used sparingly.

  • Human foods such as whole-wheat bread, fruits and vegetables should remain under 15 percent of its daily diet.

  • Wash water bottle each day before replacing fresh water making sure the drinking tube is not clogged.

  • Avoid giving too many fatty foods such as nuts and seeds. This will help protect against obesity.
