Things You'll Need:
- Internet access
- Telephone directory
-
Step 1
Know state and local laws about buying and selling opossums. The "Know Your STO" website links to laws regarding opossums by state.
-
Step 2
Scour your local telephone directory or the Internet for exotic pet dealers or exotic pet brokers. These individuals are often willing to assist the public in selling exotic pets to good homes. Sometimes exotic pet dealers and brokers are also able to place exotic pets like opossums with zoos, safari parks and other reputable businesses.
-
Step 3
Consider selling your pet opossum locally. Depending on your location, there may not be an exotic pet broker or dealer nearby. Contact your local pet store for suggestions for places to sell or advertise in a local newspaper or bargain trader magazine. Online opossum or exotic pet forums are also good places to search for willing buyers. Opossums are popular among exotic pet lovers and often sell quickly in a local market.
-
Step 4
Price your pet opossum after conducting some research through local markets like newspapers and bargain trader magazines or after pricing the animals at local pet stores or flea markets.
-
Step 5
Prepare to transport or ship the pet opossum to the buyer. If the buyer is local, the transport can be as simple as deciding on a location in which to make the exchange. If shipping the opossum is a necessity, become familiar with USDA regulations.
